Interview with Fashion Model - Rachel Harvey

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 34 years old from Bristol, I have been a freelance model for about 10 years now and work in Children’s outpatients in the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

How did you start modelling?
I answered an advert on gumtree, they needed a vintage bridal model for a blog launch event, I sent over some headshots and was hired! Bristol’s best wedding suppliers attended along with amazing photographers where I was able to network and gain photos, the designer of the wedding dresses I wore that day then contacted me asking me to be the face of her next bridal collection!

Which other models did you admire and inspire you to become a model yourself?
I don’t think there was one particular model that I admired, in all honesty I was always a very ‘posey’ child, most of my childhood photos contain a lot of confidence or some form of over exaggerated pose and I think the older I got the more I thought modelling might be for me!

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?
The ability to function without a cup of tea! It just isn’t possible…it’s a Harvey thing!

What’s your health/beauty regimen?
Lots of sleep, lots of water and make sure to take off my make up before going to bed!

What are your plans for the future?

I have done a lot of bridal work but have absolutely loved being able to show a more sultry and emotional side so I will hope to try a bit more fashion work in the future.

What are some of your favourite experiences so far?
Being on the front covers of magazines! it was on my bucket list and it’s so bizarre to see yourself in shops! Also being on a giant promotional banner for a wedding venue in Bristol, my friends would phone me every time they walked past it!

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modelling?
Look for likeminded people, make up and hair artists, photographers etc all looking to start out or to build portfolio work and wanting to do some ‘time for print’ shoots, you will get all the images from the day and it will benefit everyone! Things may be slightly different/easier now though, Instagram wasn’t popular when I first started out! Also get your friends to take your photo so you can get used to being in front a camera, Some of my very first headshots were taken by my friend trying out her new camera!

Thank you so much for the interview, Rachel… It was an absolute pleasure to work with you as always. To see more of Rachel, jump over to her Instagram page: www.instagram.com/rachelharvey87
